The Week Ahead…

Monday,19th October

  • 16°
  • 6 to 12 mph
  • SW
  • Remaining dry throughout the day with good sunny spells and variable amounts of cloud from time to time.

Monday will remain dry during daylight hours for all areas but the cloud will build in from the West as the day progresses. This is ahead of an Atlantic system that will introduce more unsettled conditions in the form of outbreaks of showery rain.

Any rain or showers are expected to arrive from the west as we move through late evening into the early hours of Tuesday for Cornwall and Devon. Eastern parts, say Dorset, Hampshire, Somerset, and Wiltshire not seeing any showers or rain until Tuesday morning onwards

Winds will pick up along the South coast throughout the day.

Tuesday 20th October
Cornwall & Devon
  • 15°
  • 12 to 40 mph
  • S-SW
Dorset & Hampshire
  • 14°
  • 11 to 38 mph
  • S-SW
Somerset & Wiltshire
  • 14°
  • 7 to 22 mph
  • SW
  • Good sunny spells and scattered heavy showers, risk of thunderstorms.

It’s going to be a day of showers, sunny spells and gusty winds on exposed coastal areas

Some of the showers, especially as we move into the afternoon could become heavy, even thundery with Cornwall, Devon, and Dorset potentially seeing the heaviest of these showers. Somerset, Wiltshire, Hampshire seeing isolated showers come the afternoon.

We could see the winds really pick up for a short period of time, along southern coastal areas during the early hours of Tuesday morning, easing down as the day progresses.

Wednesday, 21st October
Cornwall & Devon
  • 14°
  • 11 to 19 mph
  • SW
Dorset & Hampshire
  • 14°
  • 10 to 19 mph
  • S-SW
Somerset & Wiltshire
  • 15°
  • 7 to 13 mph
  • SW
  • Unsettled with showers or longer spells of rain, potentially thundery. Strong winds reaching gale force at times, especially in the heaviest of showers.

A day rain, heavy in places pushing northeast. The heavy rain should clear most areas by mid afternoon, drying up behind with just a few showers.

With the nature of all showers, some could remain dry where others get hit back to back and could see localised flooding issues in the heaviest downpours.

Winds remaining gusty in exposed areas

Thursday, 22nd October
Cornwall & Devon
  • 13°
  • 5 to 12 mph
  • SW
Dorset & Hampshire
  • 13°
  • 6 to 13 mph
  • SW
Somerset & Wiltshire
  • 14°
  • 4 to 9 mph
  • SW
  • Remaining dry throughout the day with good sunny spells and variable amounts of cloud from time to time.

Any showery rain will clear Wiltshire and north Somerset by early morning allowing all of the Southwest to enjoy a more settled day with good sunny spells and lighter winds.

There is a risk of showers or a more organised band of rain to push in from the west late evening to affect western parts of Cornwall.

Friday, 23rd October
Cornwall & Devon
  • 12°
  • 12 to 20 mph
  • SW
Dorset & Hampshire
  • 13°
  • 10 to 18 mph
  • SW
Somerset & Wiltshire
  • 14°
  • 6 to 13 mph
  • SW
  • Cloudy with outbreaks of rain throughout the day.

Starting off dry first thing for north-eastern parts of Somerset and Wiltshire but quickly showery rain will spread to all areas by mid morning. Some heavier bursts possible over high ground.

Any showers or longer spells of rain where showers have merged will tend to die out into the late afternoon.

Breezy around the coasts exposed to the southwesterly winds.

Saturday, 23rd October
Cornwall & Devon
  • 13°
  • 11 to 45 mph
  • SW
Dorset & Hampshire
  • 13°
  • 11 to 45 mph
  • SW
Somerset & Wiltshire
  • 14°
  • 9 to 30 mph
  • W-SW
  • Generally overcast with limited sunshine.

For much of Saturday at present looks set to be overcast.

Rain will spread to all areas becoming more showery during the evening.

Winds will also be a feature once again, with gusty conditions on exposed coasts and hills touching near gale force for a time.

Sunday, 25th October
Cornwall & Devon
  • 14°
  • 12 to 25 mph
  • S-SW
Dorset & Hampshire
  • 13°
  • 10 to 25 mph
  • S-SW
Somerset & Wiltshire
  • 14°
  • 9 to 19 mph
  • SW
  • Showers with sunny spells in between. Remaining windy throughout the day, especially on exposed coasts and hills.

A breezy showery day is in store for all areas once any overnight rain clears from eastern parts. Some of the showers could turn out to be heavy but the risk of Thunder is low.

Winds will be strongest on exposed coasts and hills but move further inline and dodging the showers, it won’t be a bad sort of day.
